EMOTIONS
We cannot see the stars during the day.
Only in the night, we could savor the beauties of the twinkling stars.
Like the daytime brightness, during times of prosperity, we tend to forget the Maker.
The late Dr. Wee Kim Wee, the ex President of Singapore (who hosted my birthday celebration at the Istana with my family on 14 June 1991), shared that many people begin to turn to God or religion only when they were seriously sick or were in extreme difficulties. This is truth. Many people turned to appreciate God only during times of darkness, or difficulties.
Day & night are inevitable. It is a cycle. We cannot change it. After good times are bad times, and vice versa. Clever people will understand this cycle & use it to their advantage, especially those in business. They control their investments. They prepare for bad times during good times.
In the day, shadows are caused by the blockage of light. The stronger the light, the darker the shadow. Even in the midst of the daylight of prosperity, there will be shadows.
The late Helen Keller (the blind, deaf & dumb wonder lady) said: ‘Keep your face in the sunshine & you will never see the shadow.’ She could not see, and yet, she shared about sunshine & shadow. It is the clarion call to see the truth, the positives. If we set our eyes & hearts on the light, shadows will be behind us.
In broad day light, some people see only shadows. They allow obstacles to block their vision of living. They wear permanent sun glasses. They live in permanent untruths. They need to take away their sun glasses, to see & live in truth, not lies.
Our emotions determine how we live the night & day. Emotions can either inspire or despair us. Negative emotions can drain our energies, causing physical illness to take existence. Healthy emotions propel us to great heights of joy & achievements.
As leaders, we need to control & cultivate our emotions. There are bright & dark emotions. The choice is ours.
The emotionally steady leader is:
Kind but not weak
Strong but not rude
Bold but not a bully
Humble but not timid
Humorous but not stupid.
