Because He Lives*

I woke up with a start. Could not go back to sleep. The memories of my nightmare haunts me. Without my 8 hours of sleep, I cannot function well.

At the later part of my sleep, I dreamt that Chomel (the neighbourhood cat) had been culled by some psychotic, depraved man. To recap the whole nightmare, it took place at home.

Paul, Zoe and me were gathered around the dining table to work on a project together. This project should be Managing Growing Business (MGB) because we 3 had worked together on this project in real life and had handed up the project not long ago.

A few minutes later, Pi, my sister, came back from school. She puts her bag on the chair (as always) and turned to me saying:

"Jie. You know Chomel?"

"Ya why?"

"She is dead."

"Huh? How come?"

"The man who'd sayang her killed her."

The way Pi (read: Pee not Pie not 3.142) said it was as blasé as I am retelling it. It is as though, this act of cruelty is as common as number of crimes in Malaysia happening everyday.

I am sure many of you had read the papers showing one man hidden behind some dark sunglasses fliming his merciless acts on cats that had befriended him. Both he and his friend, have a warped sense of humour. I cannot relate a bold man killing a cat and yet, not man enough to own up to his deeds. To me, the act of killing cats is almost equivalent to killing my relatives. The hurt, the anger, the confusion. How would he like if I scammed his mother of all her life savings and then murdered her promptly after that? Ok. That will never happen. Firstly, I would have the death penalty hanging on my head. Secondly, Thou shall not kill. Thirdly, even if I did so, I bet that perverted man would not even care. Fourthly................................ Ok ok. I have no guts to perform something as malevolent as that.

I do wish I can be like David, the dream interpreter. I want to interpret what I had just dreamt of! I am pretty sure there are hidden meanings behind the dream. One particular dream dictionary quoted:

Kill
To dream about killing is not necessarily negative. It often means the
dreamer is letting go of old habits and attitudes in order to go on to a new
stage of life. To dream that you have been killed suggests that your actions are
disconnected from your emotions. Also, it may mean that there are drastic
changes occurring in your life.

Is it true?

Should such sinners be forgiven?

In Matthew 18: 21-22,

"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive
my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?"

Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but
seventy-seven times."

The Lord teaches us to forgive and forget. Even if a sinner had sinned a zillion times! Sometimes I ask myself, "wah lao... These kind of people, still must forgive?"

Yes.

Osama too?

Yes.

If we can bring ourselves to really forgive the unforgiveable and to love the unloveable, we will be blessed, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

God knows, every single good and bad deed committed by each and everyone of us. And we believe that before entering his Gates in Heaven, He will weigh the amount of sins against our good deeds. God will forgive the man who culled cats. So must we. So must I. So I must get this into my head.

I have seen the power of prayers, and I will pray for this man. For him to gain salvation, for Jesus died on the cross for him too. It is His blood that cleansed us of our sins.

Some of my friends told me, that christianity is very errie. When the whole congregation is speaking in tongues, it is as though spirits are at work, they can feel a strong presence and yet, kwa bo leh (don't see anything)... I remember this story appearing in the Singapore Ghost Book. Forgot the title. But it is quite a hit with teenage readers. Singapore's scariest ghost stories is it? I have a weak heart for such things so I can't recall (and don't want to) the name.

Someone posted that when the whole congregation spoke in tongues, hairs started to rise, and with the already errie sounding atmosphere, they made a dash to the nearest exit.

I am not here to repudiate that notion. In fact, I agree with whatever they mentioned in the story. I believe, it is the work of the Holy Spirit. It is this spirit that is witnessing our good and bad deeds. It is not a ghost. There was this incident whereby a teenage girl was knocked in front of my church while she was jaywalking. As the road is a long, straight road, cars are travelling at about 80-90km/h. She flew a few meters after the impact, and got away only with slight bruises. The Holy Spirit was there to cushion her fall.

Many a times, people trust in the Lord based on miracles. "Lord! Show me a miracle so that I can believe in you!"

If your faith is based on miracles, does it mean that if one day when your prayers are not answered, or when miracles does not seem to happen, will you not believe in Christ anymore? Is your faith that diminutive? This applies to me as well.

Sometimes, we praise God for his miracles. But we often blame God for unanswered prayers, no miracles, high taxes, high standard of living, bad siblings, bad parents, no money, illness, death, high COE, exams, cramps, birthing labour, constipation, slow cable, embarassing situations, pesky insects, perverted males who have a $2000 bounty on his head and is still walking the streets, crimes......................................................................

Ok I'm getting sleepy...
